In deze aflevering bespreken we de herintroductie van Hyves in Nederland en wat dat volgens ons zegt over digitale 'soevereiniteit'. We gaan in op de manier waarop het platform wordt gepresenteerd als Europees, maar volgens toch afhankelijk blijft van Amerikaanse technologie en advertentiemodellen.

We bespreken ook de privacyverklaring van Hyves. Daarbij zeggen we dat de gegevens van gebruikers volgens die verklaring toch gedeeld kunnen worden met mediabureaus, adverteerders, advertentienetwerken en data-partners voor de verkoop van advertentieruimte.

Daarnaast staan we stil bij bredere onderwerpen rond digitale controle. We bespreken Chat Control en de onderhandelingen in Brussel, waarbij we uitleggen dat er opnieuw wordt gewerkt aan varianten op massasurveillance via zoekplannen en mogelijk client-side scanning.

Verder gaan we in op praktische manieren om privacy te beschermen. We behandelen onder meer buitenlandse bankrekeningen, contant betalen, het vermijden van persoonlijke bonuskaarten, het gebruik van VPN’s en alternatieven voor Gmail en iDEAL.

Ook bespreken we hoe sociale-mediadata volgens ons worden gebruikt door partijen als Palantir, en waarom we alternatieve, decentrale platforms belangrijk vinden. We noemen daarbij onder meer Nostr als technisch alternatief.

Tot slot behandelen we Meta-brillen en de opkomst van middelen om onzichtbaar te filmen in de openbare ruimte. We zeggen dat dit leidt tot nieuwe privacyproblemen en dat er maatschappelijk en politiek nog geen duidelijke oplossing is.

We beginnen met de groei van de podcast en het uitzenden van de podcast bij LighthouseTV. We staan stil bij de mijlpaal van 15.000 kijkers op YouTube en lichten toe dat de uitzendmomenten veranderen. Ook zal de productie verder worden uitgebreid met extra camera’s. Het is tijd voor een volgende fase in ons groeiproces!

Daarna gaan we in op de nieuwe wetgeving rond inlichtingen en digitale controle. We bespreken dat er volgens ons steeds meer bevoegdheden naar de geheime diensten gaan, terwijl toezicht juist afneemt. We behandelen de nieuwe inlichtingenwet en noemen daarbij maatregelen zoals bulkverzameling van gegevens, toegang tot bank- en transactiegegevens, hackbevoegdheden, gezichtsherkenning op afstand en het inzetten van andere overheidsdiensten voor de geheime diensten.

We bespreken ook de komst van een Europese digitale identiteit en leeftijdsverificatie voor sociale media. We leggen uit dat een leeftijdsapp, de zogenoemde mini-wallet, gekoppeld is aan de Europese Digital Identity Wallet. Volgens ons wordt daarmee een extra toegangspoort geïntroduceerd, waarbij eerst bepaalde eigenschappen moeten worden bewezen voordat diensten gebruikt mogen worden.

Verder behandelen we het gebruik van drones en camera’s in de openbare ruimte. We gaan in op politiegebruik van drones boven snelwegen rondom Amsterdam voor verkeershandhaving, en op de normalisering van cameratoezicht in de publieke ruimte.

Tot slot bespreken we een aantal losse onderwerpen, waaronder de AI-gebruikte berichten van Rob Jetten, het mogelijke consumentenbond-verbod van Meta-brillen met camera’s, en een onderzoek naar Flock-camera’s en de ontwikkeling van deze surveillancetechnologie in Europa.
